DAILY 5
Responsibilities
Have you ever heard your child talking about Daily 5 and wondered what it was all about? Daily 5 is the structure we use for our small group reading. Mrs.Boyum reads with each different groups at the small group table, and the rest of the students work on independent reading, writing and listening jobs. Here are a few photos of some of their daily 5 jobs.
Students use an iPad in a variety of ways. Sometime they use it to scan a QR code and listen to fluent reading, they are also able to use them to work on word work activities.
Students can work on writing at their table spots, writing center, or at a lap desk (left).
READ TO SELF & READ TO SOMEONE:
Students have leveled "good fit books" and "treat books" in their book bags. Good fit books are THEIR LEVEL that they are able to read independently. A treat book can be any book (too easy, or too hard) that they want to read just for fun. Some popular spots to read include our book nook, and our newest addition the BOOK BOAT (laundry hamper)!! The book boats give each student a cozy spot to read. There are rules to the book boats, just as there are roles on any boat... Don't rock the boat, body stays in the boat, make good choices or you can't stay in the boat. etc. They helped us come up with a smart list about how to BE OUR BEST while reading in the boats.
